Volunteer Descriptions

We need all hands on deck for our swim season!  Every family must complete 5 shifts per family!

Whether you've been on the team 10 years, or you're a new parent - we have volunteer positions that match your skill level!  Please review descriptions below:

Setup Positions

Event Set-up (3-4 vols) HOME. 4:00-5:30pm. Setting up chairs, tables, organizing the water for hospitality, putting up banners/signs. (Home meets only).

Stocking Coolers with Ice & Water (1) Bring bottled water or ice to setup by 5pm, load it into the coolers on the pool deck, Cove Aquatic Center.  (Home meets only).

Beginning Volunteer Positions

Timers – (10 per shift). Time each race with stop watches. Great for beginners! Must stand in place for the entire shift.

Runner – (2 per shift) HOME ONLY. Collects all of the sheets after each race from the timers and takes to the balloters. High level of walking.

Hospitality – (1 per shift) HOME ONLY. Continually circulates and carries around a tray of water bottles to deliver to volunteers who are stuck at their stations. 

Balloter – (1 per shift) Takes the sheets form each race, check for any questions, passes them to the computer person to enter.

Ribbons – (1 per shift) They sit with the computer people and put label stickers on the back of all the ribbons awarded. Also, during home meets, they pass out ribbons directly to swimmers during Events #11-16.

Clean Up – (2-3 vols) HOME ONLY. Putting away all chairs, tables, benches, etc. to get the pool ready for the next day of use.

Zoo Keepers

Zoo Keeper – (3 per shift) The zoo is the area where kids are checked into each event and put into the lanes for races. (Home and Away). Requires tons of interaction with young excited swimmers. Great for a teacher or coach personality, or someone who's strong and steady with kiddos! PDF Attachment is down below, to study a packet ahead of time. **It's important to know the difference of how to arrange kids on the benches for Individual Heats vs. Relay Heats.

Computer Room

Computer – (2 per shift) HOME ONLY. Inputs all of the times for each event for the meet. This is great if you love air conditioning, and aren't afraid of data entry on a computer. You can be trained onsite to learn the software! Extremely easy Swimtopia software training will be provided on site.

Starters & Clerks

Starter – (1 per shift) The starter is the one that announces what race it is and gets the races going. In charge of keeping the meet moving at a fast pace! (Home meets only.)

Clerk – (1 per shift) The clerk is the one that calls for all kids to report to the zoo. Must project loudly into microphone! (Home meets only).

Stroke & Turn Judges

Stroke & Turn Judges – (2 per shift) The stroke & turn judge is at each corner of the pool watching the swimmers during the races with their swimming techniques. (Home and Away). Requires someone who can work quietly, concentrate and has a long attention span - must be able to watch the swimmers and evaluate their strokes! Training happens in advance, must watch this OFFICIAL STROKE & TURN VIDEO.
